Elopements vs Micro Weddings: Which One is Better for You?

In recent years, elopement and micro weddings have become more and more popular. Couples are choosing a more intimate atmosphere rather than a big wedding. If you are considering an elopement vs micro wedding, in this blog I’ll be breaking down the differences between the two!

What is an Elopement?

An elopement is often described as an intimate, small scale wedding ceremony without the formalities, costs, or complexities of a traditional wedding. A lot of time, it's just the couple, the officiant, and the photographer. If there are any guests it’s usually around 10 people or less! Elopements are a way to keep the focus of the day on the couple the entire time. Elopements often take place at unique locations such as a national park, the beach, or anywhere with a scenic background.

Why Should You Have an Elopement?

Private and Meaningful

When it comes to having an elopement, you don’t have to be worrying about guests, food, or making sure everything is running smoothly. You are only focused on making a commitment to your partner without the pressure of hosting an event! There are no rules, and you can do whatever you want! You get to experience one of the most important moments in your life privately and soak up every single minute of it.

Cost Effective

Elopements are usually more affordable than traditional weddings! You cut out a lot of your cost that you would have for a traditional wedding! Some of the big costs that are cut out are, venue, decor and catering! Some cost to consider for your elopement are

More Location Options

Since elopements are small, couples can choose unique locations for their elopement! Think, national parks, beaches and any scenic view or any place you’ve dreamed of visiting!

You can do Whatever you Want!

Elopements have no rules, you can choose to do whatever you want after your ceremony. You can take an adventure through a national park and have your photographer take photos along the way, you can have an intimate dinner at your favorite restaurant, or have a picnic, the possibilities are endless! You can even take the things you love from a traditional wedding and apply it to your elopement. For example you can have a first dance, cut a cake, and even pop some champagne!

What is a Micro Wedding?

Micro weddings are a little more guest focused. Most micro weddings do traditional wedding things just on a small scale. Imagine a traditional wedding but with less guests! Couple’s who have micro weddings keep their guest lists very intentional and it's not likely that if invited you'd be getting a plus one. Micro weddings usually have about 50 people or less!

Why Should You Have a Micro Wedding

An Intentional & Intimate Guest List

Having a micro wedding allows you to focus on celebrating your special day with the people you love the most! Think about the people you always talk to and connect with! Those are the people you should have at your micro wedding.

Cost Effective

Similar to an elopement, having a micro wedding is cost effective compared to a traditional wedding with 100+ people or more. Your cost for food and beverages is significantly lowered which is one of the biggest costs in a traditional wedding! You’re also to splurge on your dream venue, photographer or decor.

Traditional Wedding on a Smaller Scale

Having a micro wedding doesn’t mean you don’t get to do all the traditional wedding things! You are still able to have your first dance, bridal party, toasts, speeches and more! The only difference is the amount of guests you have. In a way this makes it even more special, because all these moments are shared with only the most important people in your life.
